Everyone loves a brand-new kitchen, of course they do. But equally we all love a nice new bathroom, a bit of an extension or even a complete redecoration.
The reason we love these things it because as a nation we’re slightly obsessed with home renovation, improvements and redesign. It demonstrates progress, gives us something to be proud of and dare we say it, it delivers some sort of neighbourhood bragging rights. Come on, don’t be coy, you all know what we’re talking about.
At Roofspec SW we understand this, we get it and we’re probably no different ourselves. But here’s the thing. We see far too many people these days spend significant sums of money on kitchens and bathrooms and not enough on the building fundamentals such as renders, roofs, brickwork and guttering. Without these seemingly simple things, your shiny new kitchen will soon become irrelevant, pointless and potentially unusable.
We’re not saying that you shouldn’t spend money on a nice new bathroom, we’re just saying don’t focus your budget on cosmetic work over fundamental projects. It’s fine if your budget is so big that you can do both, because that’s the ideal situation. But in the absence of pots and pots of money behind you, we would always recommend sorting out the fundamentals first. The cosmetic work can always wait, but the fundamentals can’t in the same way.
We’re not just saying this because Roofspec SW are a roofing company, we’re saying it because that’s the most logical and sensible approach. The sort of approach that will keep your home maintained properly as well as functioning correctly for years to come and remember, a new kitchen or bathroom is a bit pointless without a fully functioning roof, in fact ultimately, it will be a complete waste of money.
But while we’re on the subject, it’s our belief at Roofspec SW that guttering is no different. It might not look like much, stuck on the side of a house, but the truth is, guttering is one of the most important elements of a building. It diverts water off your roof and safely away from the property. No guttering, or even a missing section can have a massive impact on the property as water gets in, damp issues occur and eventual repairs can make the cost of a new bathroom look small.
So, going forward, can we suggest that if it’s a toss-up between putting in a brand-new kitchen or sorting out your roof then please go for the roof first. Chances are it will be a lot less expensive anyway, especially when you consider the price of kitchen these days. Think of it this way, there’s always next year for the shiny new kitchen.
